Feast Ice Fire Official Game Thrones Companion Cookbook

feast ice fire official game thrones companion cookbookA Feast of Ice and Fire: The Official Game of Thrones Companion CookbookAfter reading my way through George R R Martin’s Game of Thrones series, I
I wanted to taste the foods served in the books. Martin devotes a lot of space in his series to food, describing roasts and soups, cakes and veggies… which works for me, since I’m a food lover, but how in the heck could I prepare any of these dishes without a proper medieval cookbook? Or without the help of Pot Pie?

Then I found A Feast of Ice and Fire: The Official Game of Thrones Companion Cookbook by superfans Chelsea Monroe-Cassel and Sariann Lehrer. Oh wow! I couldn’t WAIT to get into the kitchen and to get cooking!

The hardcover book is super well organized and loaded with photos, so it’s a delight to read for cooks and non-cooks alike.

Recipes are arranged by region-The North, the South, The Wall, Kings Landing, the Dorne, and the lands across the Narrow Sea. All those dishes you read about, or saw on the show, like Beef and Bacon Pie, Lemon Cakes, Barley Soup, Roasted Beets, Honeyed Chicken, and of course, Mulled Wine.

Because we don’t live in a medieval fantasy world (well, we might in our heads…), modern cooking techniques are used (not many of us have servant boys who can stand over the fire all day rotating meat on spits). Also, some real world substitutions are made (instead of Aurochs, we are encouraged to use beef).

Each recipe is introduced with a passage from the book, making it easier to set the scene in your mind (and on the table. What makes this book such a treat for cooks and non-cooks is the photos. The book is a feast for the eyes as well as the stomach.

Also included is a Guide to Entertaining Game of Thrones Style-
Stage your table in Medieval Style, then gather your friends for a feast of Pork Pie, Quail Drowned in Butter, Rabbit Stew, Cream Swans, and Baked Apples.

If you want to transport yourself into George R R Martin’s Game of Thrones world, you NEED “A Feast of Ice and Fire”.
