How to Peel Peaches

PeachesPeeling peaches is not at all like peeling apples or potatoes. You don’t want to haul out the peeler, it just isn’t that efficient, and you end up hacking the peaches. And if these are ripe peaches from your tree, this is especially true.

So how do you do it?

With water.

Seriously…..

Get your peaches…..

a small paring knife

a slottet spoon (or just a big spoon)

and bring a pot of water to a boil (I use a soup pot)

Let them boil in the water for a minute or two (DON’T freak out! They won’t cook)

Use the spoon to pull the peaches out.

You should now be able to slide the skin off by gently rubbing it.

To keep the peaches from discoloring, you can put them in a bowl of cold water with a little lemon juice.

Slice and Eat! Or bake into a cobbler, or a yummy Peach Shortbread Tart.
